The Portes du Soleil, most famous for being one of the world’s largest ski domains, the area offers an amazing variety of walking during the summer months, ranging from family-friendly riverside strolls through to tougher overnight treks staying in mountain refuge huts.
There are many mountains to climb! and hundreds of walks…850kms to go at in this area! The cable cars and chair lifts can do all the hard work by getting you to the top of the mountains where you are then able to explore. Mountain guides are available to lead walks and climbs throughout the summer months.
With Morzine as your base, surrounded by mountains, once you get up there it’s a rooftop paradise including stunning panoramic views to Mont Blanc, the Dents Blanche, and Lake Geneva.
The choices are endless and here are a few examples of walks from gentle flat strolls to full on day’s out…
- Walking from the town you can take a gentle stroll through shaded forest along the banks of the river Dranse, or head up from the town to visit the Nyon waterfall and continue along to the stunning Vallee de la Manche.
- Pléney panoramic and Atray chalets – This 1.5hr walk taking the Pleney cable car and chair lift up , allows you to take in the flora and fauna as you decent through woodland, flowers, chalets and amazing views.
- High Meadow tour – 1.45hrs including lake, refuges, forests and a goats cheese producing restaurant. This beautiful walk gives you the option to trail off to a Swiss bird watching hide.
- Brochaux waterfall and Lindarets goat village – With a steep climb onto the Avoriaz ridge this walk then descends to a lovely waterfall and onto the goat village in Linderets where you can take a lunch stop. The chair lift will then cut out another climb before heading to the start!
